Empowering Educators Through Teaching With Love (TWL)
Since its launch in 2024, Teaching With Love has become an inspiration for educators seeking to nurture inclusive learning environments where every child can flourish. Looking back at the first and second quarter of 2025, we continue to see the impact of our TWL seminars.
This year, TWL sessions began in Gqeberha with Mosaic Community Development, led by our founder Paul Sutherland. The seminar highlighted the message that we “always have the power of choice”, and that it is our responsibility to use our power of choice to move past victimhood. Future educator Pumi shared a meaningful insight: "Paul is such a great teacher. It made me think about how I have the responsibility to be able to stand up, and there's always a solution for everything." These words capture the essence of what Teaching With Love achieves - awakening the innate potential within every educator.
On the 9th and 10th of April, STEPi hosted two Teaching With Love seminars at Stellenbosch University's Ukwanda campus in Worcester. The seminars were attended by over 70 passionate participants, eager to learn and grow as educators. The enthusiasm and engagement we witnessed reinforced our belief in the transformative power of love-centered education.
On Worker's Day, May 1st, we had the privilege of empowering 161 future educators through TWL at Nelson Mandela University. The seminar explored topics such as “the importance of micro-moments”. Micro-moments are intentional interactions that teachers have with their students, which build connections and allow each individual learner to feel seen, heard and valued. Students also participated in two of our skits, “Unanswered Prayers” and “Island economics”. The skits allowed students to actively and creatively convey and engage with the key themes discussed, such as moving past victimhood, and being able to take ownership over one’s life, using the tools that have been given to us.
May ended with two additional Teaching With Love seminars in Johannesburg, with a spirited group of interns from the Global Teachers Institute (GTI), and a dedicated group of teachers from Naturena Primary School. June began with 23 educators from the Qhamani-Nandi Foundation Program in Motherwell positively impacted by Teaching With Love.
STEPi remains committed to continuing its mission to support and uplift local communities, working day by day, to ensure that the education pyramid is squared. By equipping teachers at the grassroots level, our hope is that all children, regardless of their background, class, or socioeconomic status, have access to quality education.
